Your Guide To Blackrock

Estate Agent

Blackrock (Irish: An Charraig Dhubh) is a suburb of Dublin, It is 3 km (1.9 mi) northwest of Dún Laoghaire. Blackrock covers a large but not precisely defined area, rising from sea level on the coast to 90 metres (300 ft) at White’s Cross on the N11 national primary road.

History of the area

Blackrock was known as Newtown-at-the-Black Rock, Newtown on the Strand by the Black Rock, Newtown Castle Byrne, or just Newtown hundreds of years ago. “Blackrock” is simply an acronym for one of these earlier names. For instance, in a 1488 Act of Parliament, the town was referred to as Newtown. Newtown Avenue and Newtown House continue to use the name. Because it was constructed within the Deer Park that belonged to Stillorgan House, or Castle, it was distinguishable from Newtown-in-the-Deer-Park, the village’s previous name for Newtown Park (a quo Newtownpark Avenue).

More Recent Times

In addition to bars like The Breffni, Jack O’Rourkes, Flash Harry’s, Conways, The Wicked Wolf, Kelly & Coopers, and the Three Tun Tavern, Blackrock is a large commercial area with cafes, restaurants, an award-winning independent fine wine and craft beer store (Blackrock Cellar), boutiques, hairdressers and barbers, a tattoo and piercing studio, pharmacies, supermarkets, and art galleries.

Superquinn, the development manager and anchor retailer of the Blackrock Shopping Centre, established it in 1984. Supervalu has replaced Superquinn. For AIB, Bank of Ireland, EBS, National Irish Bank, Ulster Bank, and the Blackrock Credit Union, there are numerous high-street finance locations.
